Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | October 8-14

 

AVON, Ohio – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the top athletes from the week of October 8 through 14. Sports Information Directors from the league nominate student-athletes for the award and vote on each week’s winners.

Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
Justis Paul, Mount Vernon Nazarene

Paul became the second runner for MVNU to crack the 26-minute mark, crossing in 25:53 to take 25th of 369 at the Wilmington Classic.

Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
MaKenzie McKirgan, Mount Vernon Nazarene

McKirgan finished 18th in the field of 308 to pace MVNU at the Wilmington Classic, crossing with a time of 18:48.

 

Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Luke Williams, Taylor

Williams posted back-to-back shutouts to help Taylor vault up the league standings with 1-0 wins over Marian and USF. The keeper made eight stops and now boasts three-straight shutouts.

Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Ulisses Miranda, Grace

Miranda helped RV Grace to wins over IWU and MVNU by racking up three goals and an assist in the two victories. The sophomore played a role in two goals in each contest.

 

Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Bethany Blackwood, Grace

Blackwood kept rolling in the net for RV Grace, posting two more shutouts and collecting a combined 13 saves to help the Lancers take out RV Indiana Wesleyan and Mount Vernon Nazarene in a pair of key Crossroads League victories.

Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Bethany Balcer, Spring Arbor

Balcer shredded the nets for top-ranked Spring Arbor in a pair of 7-0 league victories. Balcer finished with six goals and three assists in the two wins to move into ninth all-time in the NAIA for career goals with 116.

 

Volleyball Attacker of the Week
Amanda Adams, Taylor

Adams had 16-or-more kills in four-of-five matches for Taylor, slamming 3.9 kills per set with a .264 hitting percentage. The sophomore ended with 77 kills and eight blocks to help the Trojans go 3-2 on the week.

Volleyball Defender of the Week
Samantha Korn, Taylor

Korn turned in a pair of 30-dig efforts and closed the week with 116 digs over five matches for Taylor, helping TU to a trio of wins with 5.8 digs per set.

 

Volleyball Setter of the Week
Haley Harrell, Taylor

Harrell tossed up at least 40 assists in four matches for Taylor, helping the Trojans to a 3-2 week with 202 assists, 78 digs and seven blocks. Harrell had a double-double in all five contests, finishing with 10.1 assists and 3.9 digs per set.
