Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | Sep. 28 – Oct. 4
AVON, Ohio – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the top athletes from the week of September 28 through October 4. Sports Information Directors from the league nominate student-athletes for the award and vote on each week’s winners.
Volleyball Attacker of the Week
Amanda Adams, Taylor
Adams piled up 49 kills and 30 digs in a trio of wins for Taylor, while adding a pair of double-double showings. The senior went for 19 kills and 14 digs in a five-set thriller against MVNU, added 16 kills in a sweep of Indiana Tech and finished the week with 4.1 kills per set.
Volleyball Defender of the Week
Isabelle North, Bethel
North was at it again for the 8-1 Pilots, this time notching 13 blocks and 17 kills in a pair of league wins for BU. The standout freshman stole the show in Bethel’s 3-1 upset of No. 1 Marian, going for 15 kills and 10 blocks to take down the Knights.
Volleyball Setter of the Week
Olivia Zawadski, Indiana Wesleyan
Zawadski averaged 10.5 assists per set in two wins for No. 7 Indiana Wesleyan, including 34 helpers in a four-set win against No. 1 Marian and 50 assists in a 3-1 win over MVNU.
Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Mackenzie Selvius, Spring Arbor
Selvius scored a career-high five goals in No. 24 Spring Arbor’s 5-0 defeat of Saint Francis during SAU’s lone match of the week.
Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Lilly Jakuszewski, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Jakuszewski recorded two shutouts in goal for the RV Cougars in their matches against Huntington and No. 7 Indiana Wesleyan. The freshman scored a shutout win in MVNU’s 3-0 defeat of HU and picked up four saves in a scoreless draw against the Wildcats.
Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Cole Russell, Spring Arbor
Russell netted a goal in each of No. 12 SAU’s shutout victories, helping the Cougars to a 1-0 win over Grace and a 2-0 triumph against Saint Francis.
Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Christopher Banfi, Spring Arbor
Bonfi helped No. 12 Spring Arbor to a pair of shutout victories by collecting six saves in goal in SAU’s wins over Grace and Saint Francis.
Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
Emma Wilson, Huntington
Wilson was absolutely dominant in her first-place finish at the Huntington Invite, crossing at 17:13 to top the next competitor by nearly 90 seconds and shattering the previous course record by 25 seconds.
Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
Landon Miller, Indiana Wesleyan
Miller took second place out of 119 runners at the Greater Louisville Classic on Saturday. The senior ran a time of 24:52 at the event.
