Crossroads League Names Lutz and Gerka as Athletes of the Week

AVON, Ohio – The Crossroads League announced its athletes of the week on Wednesday, recognizing the top performers from the week of December 18-24. In order to be considered for the award, a student-athlete must be nominated by their institution’s Sports Information Director.
Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
Ryan Lutz, Bethel
Lutz netted a season-high 28 points, making eight-of-10 attempts from deep in No. 14 Bethel’s 91-86 win at RV Keiser in double overtime. Lutz added 12 rebounds, six assists and two steals in the contest and averaged 20.0 points, 7.0 boards, 4.0 assists and 2.0 steals in a pair of BC wins, while shooting 59.1 percent from the field and 70.6 percent from downtown.
Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
Kara Gerka, Saint Francis
Gerka scored a career-high 40 points on 12-of-16 shooting and added six rebounds to lead No. 20 Saint Francis to a 91-82 upset of No. 12 IU East. Gerka scored double figures with at least six rebounds in each of USF’s three outings, averaging 21.7 points and 6.7 boards, while shooting 52.9 percent from the field and 63.6 percent from deep for the Cougars.
