CHICAGO – For the first time this season the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference announced on Tuesday that Indiana University South Bend baseball senior TJ DeHerrera has been named CCAC Player of the Week. The honor is also the first conference baseball award given out this season.

During the week of March 8-14, DeHerrera used a staggering .550 batting average, five home runs, 13 runs batted in and a 1.500 slugging percentage to gain the player of the week accord. The senior right fielder hit safely and scored a run in each of the Titans six games played last week. He also connected on a double in four straight games and drove in runs in four of the six contests.
The Bolingbrook, Ill. native opened the week in grand fashion on Wednesday, March 10 when he went 4-for-5 with a double, three homers, six RBI and three runs scored in the first tilt of a doubleheader at Indiana Wesleyan University.
DeHerrera’s other multi-hit game occured in the first of a four-game series versus Lourdes University on Friday, where he went 3-for-4 with a double, home run and three runs batted in.
With the help of DeHerrera, IU South Bend went 3-3 overall last week as the Titans improved to 4-10 overall and begin CCAC play Wednesday, March 17 hosting league newcomer Lincoln College. First pitch of the single nine-inning game is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Rex Weade Stadium.
