MARION, Ind. – The Indiana Wesleyan women’s soccer team fell short Friday 1-0 to #8 Cumberland (Tenn.). The Phoenix scored their lone goal in the second minute of the match off a cross into the box. Tia Sanford nearly tied the match in the 26th minute pushing a cross from Olivia Schmidt inches past the goal post. Both teams maintained nearly equal possession throughout the game, with Cumberland edging IWU in shots 13-10, both landing six on goal.

SEIFFERT PERSPECTIVE

“I am very proud of our girls for fighting and never giving up. I am even more proud of how they came out on short rest and pushed through it for 90 minutes, and never backed down and never showed times of being intimidated. We now have to regroup and turn our focus to League play.”

NEXT TIME ON THE PITCH

·       IWU kicks off Crossroads League play on the road facing Mount Vernon at 4 p.m. on September 26.
