KANSAS CITY, Mo.- For the seventh straight week, the Southeastern University baseball team has landed atop the NAIA Coaches’ Top 25 poll. The Fire came in at No. 1 in the final installment of the national rankings, receiving 13 of the 18 first-place votes. SEU has been ranked number one in every poll this season.
SEU currently leads the NAIA in six statistical categories, including Doubles per Game (2.79), Team Batting Average (.359), and Total Batters Struck Out (468).
The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences and the Association of Independent Institutions.
The Top 25 is determined by a points system based on how each voter ranks the best teams. A team receives 30 points for each first-place vote, 29 for second-place and so on through the list.
Fellow Sun Conference members St. Thomas and Webber International remained at No. 6 and 19 in the poll respectively. Keiser was the top-recognized team in the receiving votes section of the ranking, just three points back from No. 25.
Southeastern is riding a seven-game winning streak entering The Sun Conference Tournament. The Fire enter the tournament as the No. 1 overall seed and will open play on Thursday against No. 6-seed Thomas. First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
