LAKELAND, Fla.- The Southeastern University men’s and women’s cross country programs earned conference recognition this evening, as the Fire swept The Sun Conference Runners of the Week honors. Senior transfer Mario Perez earned the distinction on the men’s side, while sophomore Julia Rohm was the recipient for the women.
Perez competed in his first race with SEU, and first in two years. He was the top collegiate finisher in the Holloway Park XC Festival, placing second overall in the 6K race in a time of 20:15. Perez helped the Fire clinch the team title just two points shy of a perfect score.
Rohm cruised to the overall win in the season-opening Holloway Park XC Festival in a time of 19:48, finishing nearly 20 seconds ahead of teammate Mackenzie Johnson who finished second. The Fire won the event, with five of the top seven finishers in the field.
Both teams are back in action this Saturday at the Mountain Dew Invitational in Gainesville. The men’s race is scheduled for 7:55 a.m. with the women’s race to follow at 8:30 a.m.
