LAKELAND, Fla.- In a top ten matchup, the No. 3 Fire couldn’t convert several late opportunities as they were stifled by the Racer’s defense throughout the match, losing to No. 6 Northwestern Ohio 1-0.
Northwestern Ohio scored their match winning goal in the 44th minute of the first half after converting a free kick from just outside the box.
Sophomore goalkeeper Holly Eddins kept Southeastern close recording four of her nine saves in the second half, after seeing 14 total shots come her way and keeping the Racer’s attack at bay the entire game.
The Fire nearly tied things up in the 61st minute when senior Uchenna Kanu’s shot was just wide right from a perfectly placed head pass from graduate Yulie Lopez. Southeastern wouldn’t go away easy in the final minutes, ramping up the pressure and creating chances in the final ten minutes with junior Aisha Solorzano missing just high on two occasions, but had trouble finding openings to shoot, only putting 3-of-12 shots on goal.
Southeastern will look to get back in the win column when the take on Warner University in the conference opener at home on September 25 at 5 p.m.
