LAKELAND, Fla.—The Southeastern men’s tennis team picked up a couple of individual wins against fellow Sun Conference member St. Thomas University, but the Fire were unable to get the overall victory, dropping the match to the Bobcats 7-2.
Felipe Barbosa and Thomas Ortega defeated their opponents 9-7 at No. 2 doubles to improve to 4-2 in league play; however, SEU was beaten in the remaining two doubles matches.
In singles competition, St. Thomas clinched the team win with triumphs in the 1-5 spots. Aaron Skingley stole a point for Southeastern by coming back to top his challenger in a three-set thriller. The senior from London, England notched 7-6 (12-10) and 10-3 wins in the second and third frames respectively after going down 6-3 in the first.
The men’s tennis team will look to secure their initial victory of the season in a home match against Judson University on Wednesday. Doubles contests are set to begin at 9 a.m. at Woodlake Tennis Center.
