KANSAS CITY, Mo.—The Southeastern women’s basketball team set a new program record for its highest ranking in Tuesday’s NAIA Division II Coaches’ Top 25 Poll.
Southeastern moved up one spot to third in the first regular season edition of the poll, voted on by a panel of head coaches representing each conference.
The Fire are currently 9-0, and received 288 total points in the poll. Saint Xavier (Ill.) received five first-place votes and 306 total points. Concordia (Neb.) finished second with five more first-place votes and 3-5 total points. The final two first-place votes went to preseason No. 1, and two-time defending champion Marian (Ind.), which is 10-1.
The Fire started the season ranked fourth in the preseason poll, and are one of nine remaining unbeaten NAIA Division II women’s teams. Only College of the Ozarks has more wins (10) without a loss this year.
This is the 10th overall ranking in program history, and tenth consecutive ranking. Third also ties the school record for highest ranking of any team.
Southeastern will be in action again on Thursday at Johnson & Wales in North Miami at 6 p.m.
