TAMPA, Fla.—The Southeastern University women’s cross country team will enter the 2019 season with high expectations.
The Fire finished first in The Sun Conference Preseason Women’s Cross Country Coaches’ Poll, released this afternoon by the conference office.
SEU received four first-place votes to edge out St. Thomas for the top spot by five points. Defending champion SCAD finished third.
“It’s an honor to have our conference coaches recognize our team with the top spot going into the 2019 season,” said coach Paul Kurtz. “With such a close championship last year, I know we will have to step up our game to be at the top come season end. The ladies are already working very hard to make this a reality and I am excited to see how the season rolls.”
The Fire return all seven starters from last year’s team, which finished 29th at the NAIA National Championship, and add an exciting incoming class with four runners that have 5K personal bests near or under the 19:00 mark.
The season begins on September 7 at Holloway Park in Lakeland.
