Uribe Named All-Sun Conference
PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla.—The Southeastern University women’s golf team finished third at the 54-hole Sun Conference Championship, held at PGA National’s Fazio Course.
During Tuesday’s final round, the Fire set a new school-record for an 18-hole team score with a 305. The Fire finished 22 shots behind second-place and NAIA No. 2 SCAD Savannah. No. 1 Keiser was the overall team champion, clear of SCAD by 11 strokes.
Ana Uribe was the top individual finisher for the Fire, carding a 76 for the third straight round and placed eighth. She was also voted to the All-Sun Conference Team.
Ashlynn Joyner had the low round of the day on the roster with a 75, placing 11th (80-76-75-231). She recorded a birdie on the Par 3 fifth, and had four bogeys. Valentina Espinosa tied for 16th, closing her tournament with a six-over 78.
Brianna Farrell had two birdies and finished with her best round of the tournament at 76, finishing a stroke behind Espinosa and tying for 19th.
Brooke Wetzel rounded out the lineup in a tie for 27th, closing with a round of 83.
Additionally, Espinosa and Wetzel were named Academic All-Sun Conference. To be eligible, a student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better and have two semesters complete at their institution.
The Fire, currently ranked 14th in the NAIA, will wait to see if it earned an at-large bid to the NAIA National Championship May 14-17 in Oklahoma City.
