LAKELAND, Fla.—A record-breaking 2017 season by the Fire women’s soccer team got the attention of The Sun Conference coaches.

It also garnered their respect.

For the first time in program history, Southeastern was picked atop The Sun Conference Preseason Women’s Soccer Coaches’ Poll. The Fire tied with defending champion Keiser, which defeated Southeastern in a shootout in the conference championship game.

Southeastern received five of a possible 10 first-place votes, with coaches unable to vote for their own team. Keiser received six first-place votes.

The Fire return 42 of their 67 goals from last season, including sophomore forward Uchenna Kanu, who scored 13 goals through the first 10 games of her collegiate career and earned TSC Newcomer of the Year. SEU also returns First Team All-Conference selections Konya Plummer and Bania Duran.

The season begins on August 24 at Point.
