KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Southeastern University women’s soccer team is the top-ranked team in the country. The Fire came in at No. 1 in the latest NAIA Coaches’ Top 25 Poll. This marks the highest ranking in program history, as well as the third time an SEU athletic program has been ranked number one in the NAIA.
The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences, Association of Independent Institutions and Unaffiliated Groups. The Top 25 is determined by a points system based on how each voter ranks the best teams. A team receives 30 points for each first-place vote, 29 for second-place and so on through the list.
The Fire are 16-1-1 on the season, including victories over three ranked opponents. SEU leads the nation in goals scored (94). Junior forward Uchenna Kanu is the top individual goal scorer in the NAIA with 46.
Fellow Sun Conference member Keiser remained No. 6 in the poll.
Southeastern looks to punch its ticket to The Sun Conference Tournament Final for the second consecutive season Tuesday versus Johnson & Wales in the semifinal. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
