LAKELAND, Fla.- The Southeastern University women’s soccer team will pick up where it left off last season as one of the prominent programs in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. The Fire came in at No. 3 in the 2019 NAIA Preseason Coaches’ Top 25 Poll.
The Fire are coming off a 2018 campaign in which they set new single-season program records for goals scored (116), assists (106), wins (20), and shutouts (16). Additionally, Southeastern advanced all the way to the NAIA National Tournament Semifinals, the farthest the SEU women’s soccer program has ever made it to on the national stage.
The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences, Association of Independent Institutions and Unaffiliated Groups.
The Top 25 is determined by a points system based on how each voter ranks the best teams. A team receives 30 points for each first-place vote, 29 for second-place and so on through the list.
The Fire have now been ranked in 29 consecutive coaches’ polls under the guidance of head coach Randy Belli.
After taking on NCAA Division I programs Jacksonville and North Florida in exhibition matches this week, SEU opens up the 2019 regular season in Atchison, Kansas against No. 5 Benedictine on Thursday August 22 at 7:30 p.m.
