Fire Wrestling Fifth at NWCA Team Duals

LOUISVILLE, Ky.—The Southeastern wrestling team wrapped up an impressive weekend at Freedom Hall, taking fifth place at the NWCA Team Duals.
The Fire went 4-1, defeating four teams ranked ahead of them in the coaches’ poll.
Southeastern started Saturday with a 24-21 win over No. 8 Lindsey Wilson, which defeated SEU 29-10 at The Fire Pit just 21 days ago.
In the fifth-place match, the Fire knocked off No. 11 Missouri Valley 26-13.
Against Lindsey Wilson, Eddie Barrett scored a 12-11 decision over No. 14 Cagen Wallace to get the team going. Xavier Williamson followed suit with a win by pin over returning All-American and No. 15 Brady Moser in the second period. Stephen Kelle came up with a 15-12 win at 165 over Derrick Smallwood, who is ranked eighth at 157.
Ethan Owen knocked off tenth-ranked Casper Sherow to put the Fire up 14-0 after three matches against Missouri Valley following Williamson’s technical fall victory. At 174, Carlos Diaz came away with an upset of 14th-ranked Dalton Tipton in a 7-6 decision, and Luis Peguero’s win in sudden victory at 197 clinched the match.
The Fire return to action next Saturday at Cumberland University.
