TAMPERE, FINLAND- Another member of the Southeastern University women’s soccer program has continued her career on the professional level. SEU 2018 graduate Lysney Kelly has signed with Ilves of the Naisten Liga.
Kelly competed for two seasons at SEU after transferring over from NCAA Division I Troy University.
“Being at Southeastern gave me the confidence to want to give it a shot at playing overseas,” remarked Kelly. “Having Coach Randy push me as a person and as a player over my 2 ½ year journey definitely helped prepare me for this transition. Southeastern opened my eyes to the possibilities I didn’t think were there.”
At Southeastern, Kelly started 43 of the 45 career matches she appeared in. Additionally, Kelly was Honorable Mention All-Sun Conference in 2017, as well as Second Team All-TSC in 2018.
“I am always excited to see a player from the program take it to the next level,” shared Southeastern head coach Randy Belli, “Lynsey has all the qualities have a tremendous career in the pros. Her work-rate and professionalism will take her far in the game.”
The Winter Springs native was a major part of leading the Fire to the NAIA National Quarterfinals in 2017 and National Semifinals in 2018.
Ilves is the largest soccer organization in all of Finland. Between men’s and women’s teams and clubs, the association employs 3,750 players and 750 staff.
“It is such a blessing being able to continue playing the sport I love overseas,” commented Kelly. “Before coming to Finlad I was nervous about the move, but getting the opportunity to play soccer and meet amazing people while doing so has made it so much easier.”
The Ilves women’s team plays their home matches at Tammelan Stadion, which opened in 1931.
Naisten Liga is the premier division of women’s soccer in Finland. The league was established in 2006 in succession of Naisten SM-sarja. The organization consists of 10 different sides.
