MARIETTA, Ga.—The Southeastern University volleyball team posted a 2-0 record during Saturday’s competition at the Life University Running Eagle Classic, coming away with a 3-1 win over Fisk, then a 3-0 win over Brenau.
The victory over Fisk gave coach Audrey Goldsberry the 100th win of her career.
Southeastern (6-2) started strong, cruising to a 25-11 first set win over Fisk during a set the Fire needed just nine kills due to 14 attack errors by the opposition.
The Bulldogs quickly turned their -.265 hitting percentage around in the second set, recording 16 kills to come away with a 25-23 win.
The Fire won the third set 25-20, then behind four kills from Baylee Warneke who was named to the all-tournament team, took the final set 25-15. Warneke posted a game-high 12 kills.
Emily Kalmink added nine kills, five blocks, and two digs. Sarah Castillo was the top distributor for the offense with 17 assists, and added 12 digs.
Katie Chillura was one of four players for SEU in double figures in digs with 13.
In the second match of the day, Southeastern only trailed three times and never by more than one.
Following a 25-16 first set victory, the Fire hit .407 as a team in the second set to help pick up a 25-14 win in the second. The Golden Tigers had just four kills in the final set, hitting -.108 as the Fire won the set 25-13.
Warneke, Emily Boehlein, and Courtney Krause each had seven kills. Krause and Castillo also had 12 assists each. Krause also was in on three blocks, as was Taylor Gregory. Warneke, along with Hannah Kaszubowski had 14 digs.
