Goshen and Edward Jones Student-Athletes of the Month Award – March 2017

Goshen High School and Edward Jones are proud to announce the student-athlete of the month award to recognize athletic and academic excellence.  A senior male and female student-athlete will be selected from August-May each school year.  At the end of the year, a $500 scholarship will be awarded to one male and one female student athlete of the month, as selected by the GHS coaching staff.

The winners of the Edward Jones Student-Athlete of the Month Award for March are Kirsten Graves and Charlie Collins.

Kirsten is the daughter of Jim and Kim Graves.  After working hard throughout the off-season, she has started off her senior season with personal bests in the indoor 3200m, outdoor 3200m, and outdoor 1600m.  She placed second and third in the 3200 in her first two meets, as well as third in the 1600. Through her participation in track and cross country and her high academic status, Graves has earned several honors. She has been awarded Kiwanis Scholar Athlete in all four years of participation and has been on the High Honor Roll her entire high school career.  For cross country, Kirsten was awarded most improved her freshman year, mental attitude her junior year, and was a team captain her senior year.  Kirsten is also a member of Goshen’s German Club, National Honor Society, and is a student rotary member. Outside of school, she participates in 4-H and her church’s youth group.   After high school, Kirsten plans to attend Purdue University to study interior design.

Charlie is the son of Chad and Theresa Collins.  In the month of March, Charlie was 3-of-5 in two games with five runs scored.  In addition to baseball, he also participates in football for the RedHawks. He received the honor of being a Kiwanis Scholar Athlete all four years of high school, is the secretary of the National Honor Society and has been on the high honor roll his entire high school career. After high school, Charlie plans to attend Wayne State University to study urban planning.
