Stevensville, Mich. — The Bethel Pilots (1-11, 0-2) fell to the Goshen Maple Leafs in the US Highway 20 Cup at Lakeshore High School 9-2 and 16-3 on Wednesday.
Game 1
After a silent first inning, Goshen put up three runs on a two-run home run and on an error that scored two runs to get an early 3-0 advantage.
The Maple Leafs hit another two-run homerun to left to grow the lead to 5-0. Bethel slammed a solo homer to left field in the fourth to score 5-1.
The fourth home run of the game was hit in the top of the fifth, which scored three runs and threatened to force a run rule after six innings by batting in one more in the top of the six to make it 9-1. The Pilots plated one last run in the bottom of the sixth with Meghan Younger’s RBI single to center field, and the Maple Leafs would win game one 9-2.
Ryan Norris pitched a complete game allowing nine runs, two walks, and four strikeouts; she was credited with the loss.
Game 2
Goshen opened the first frame with three runs on an RBI double to left field and a two-run RBI double to left center to get out to a 3-0 lead. Bethel responded with an RBI double to left field by Emmie Pugh to score Mackenzie Navarrete to knock the lead down to 3-1.
The Maple Leafs rallied with seven runs in the top of the second and followed with three more in the third frame. Bethel put up two runs in the bottom of the third with an RBI single to center field by Pugh and
Mackenzie Navarrete scored on a throw to second on a Pugh RBI single.
Hannah Frady started for the Pilots and was credited with the loss after two innings, 10 hits, 10 runs, and three strikeouts.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
- Between both teams, there were five home runs; Bethel had one by Kate Cooper in game one.
- Mackenzie Navarrete went a perfect 3-for-3 in game two.
