Grace finds revenge at IU Northwest

GARY, Ind. – Exactly one month after suffering a narrow loss to IU Northwest, Grace’s women’s basketball team got the last laugh on Monday.

The Lady Lancers (6-7) downed the RedHawks 69-56 thanks to a stifling defensive performance. Grace, who won its third straight game, held the RedHawks (7-8) to 32 percent shooting in a rout.

Grace’s best quarter was the first one. Brooke Sugg started the game’s scoring with a 3-pointer on the first possession. She hit another triple minutes later, helping Grace to an early 14-6 lead.

Myriah Hoffman hit Grace’s third trifecta of the quarter in the last minute as the Lady Lancers led 25-14 after 10 minutes.

Grace maintained a comfortable cushion in the second quarter and remained ahead 38-24 at halftime. The RedHawks were stifled into 6-of-20 shooting and were outrebounded 23-10 in the opening half.

The Lady Lancers’ defense continued to silence IU Northwest for the majority of the second half. Grace blossomed its lead up to 19 in the third quarter.

IU Northwest managed to trim Grace’s margin down to nine with 3:14 remaining in the game, but it was not enough. Pam Miller made back-to-back baskets to stop the RedHawk’s momentum, and Kyannah Stull and Lexi Minix also scored to ice the win in the final minutes.

For the game Grace shot 44 percent compared to 32 percent for IU Northwest. The Lady Lancers had a 42-27 advantage in rebounding and recorded a season-high 22 assists.

Vironnica Drake led Grace in scoring with 13 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Kaylie Warble impressed off the bench with 10 points and a game-high eight boards, and Miller added 10 points and six rebounds.

Micaela Box went 5-for-5 from the free throw line for her 10 points, Kelsie Peterson and Hoffman each scored seven points, and Sugg finished with six points and two steals.

The Lady Lancers end the week in Chicago, playing a pair of games at Roosevelt University. Grace plays Robert Morris on Thursday and Roosevelt on Friday.
