Harrell Tallies 3,000th Assist, TU Drops to Cougars

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Haley Harrell logged another career milestone in Saturday’s match, grabbing her 3,000th assist. The senior setter also notched her 1,000th dig this season on September 1st.

Harrell posted 43 assists against No. 18 Saint Francis on Saturday to help her reach the career mark. The captain has already recorded 10 40-assist efforts on the season, including 18 double-double performances.

The Trojans put together a strong fight against No. 18 Saint Francis (21-5, 10-3 CL) but could not hold on. Harrell and Amanda Adams led TU to a 25-23 victory in the second set. With the score wavering at 21-23, Taylor surged back with a four-point run capped off by an Adams kill.

Adams rattled off 12 kills for the afternoon, continuing her streak of strong performances. The outside hitter has collected double-digit kills while averaging 3.47 kills per set over the last four matches.

Great play for the Trojans carried into the third set, as they jumped out to a 12-8 advantage. The TU lead reached a set-high five points before the Cougars found their footing. Seven-consecutive points for the host school gave it the come back victory in the set.

The first and fourth sets were troublesome for TU. Ranked fifth in the NAIA for total kills, No. 18 Saint Francis was in control to start and end the match. Taylor (10-14, 5-8 CL) was only able to take the second set, falling to the Cougars in four sets (25-18, 23-25, 25-22, 25-19).

Defensively, Taylor’s libero Samantha Korn was a ball-hawk, hunting down Cougar attacks to pick up an impressive 26 digs. Leading the Crossroads League, Korn now has 502 digs on the season.

Taylor will head to Spring Arbor (16-7, 7-6 CL) for its next match on October 10th at 7:00 pm.
