Notre Dame, IN. The Holy Cross College men’s basketball hosted Calumet College of St. Joseph this afternoon at McKenna Arena. The Saints fell 59-57 to the Crimson Wave. With the loss, men’s basketball stands at 9-6 overall and 4-3 in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Holy Cross trailed 19-9 midway through the first half, but the Saints would go on a run late in the half. Senior Travon Brackett scored on an offensive rebound put back, as time expired, to tie the game up 28-28 going into halftime.

After a back and forth battle for most of the second half, Holy Cross would take a 57-52 lead with four minutes to play. The Crimson Wave would outscore the Saints 7-0 in those last four minutes, and would take the lead for good on an offensive rebound that led to a Jose Ramirez three with 54 seconds remaining.

Seniors Ja’Mare Washington and Travon Brackett each recorded double-doubles, Washington with 14 points and 14 rebounds while Brackett added 11 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore Robby Jimenez also hit double-figure scoring with 13 points. The Saints shot 37% from the field and 6/26 for 23% from three. Seventeen costly turnovers played a major role in the Saints defeat.

Men’s basketball will be back in action when they host #3 ranked Indiana University-East on Wednesday, Dec. 20. Tipoff set for 6:00pm.
