Arlington Heights, IL. The Holy Cross College women’s basketball team traveled to Illinois this evening to take on Robert Morris University. The Saints defeated the Eagles 66-60. With the win, women’s basketball improves to 11-16 overall, and 5-12 in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference play.
The Saints jumped out to a 9-0 lead halfway through the first quarter. The Saints defense remained strong for the rest for period, as they would end the first ten minutes of action up 24-8.
Holy Cross wasted no time building on their lead to start the second quarter, and after a Raven Delphlayup would go up 37-14. The Saints led 42-18 heading into halftime.
The Saints defense remained tough in the third quarter, limiting the Eagles to only scoring ten points for the quarter, as they would take a 51-28 lead heading into the final quarter. The Eagles would try to make a run late, but were unable to comeback, as the Saints would win 66-60.
Senior Eryn Leek led the way, scoring 13 points on a perfect 5/5 shooting from the field. Junior Keysha Streater recorded a double-double with 11 points and grabbing a team-high 12 rebounds. Jessica Norris added 10 points and four assists. Holy Cross shot 42% from the field and 29% from behind the arc. The Saints limited the Eagles to shooting only 28% from the field and 18% from three.
Women’s basketball will be back in action when they travel back to Illinois to take on 17th ranked University of Saint Francis on Saturday, Feb. 10. Tipoff is set for 2:00pm.
