Hubbard’s Double-Double Leads Taylor to Home Victory

UPLAND, Ind. – Jason Hubbard poured in 32 points in an outstanding performance to help Taylor (13-10, 7-6 CL) defeat Saint Francis (12-11, 5-8 CL) by a score of 73-66.

The Trojan defense stymied a normally efficient offense from Saint Francis, who shot 4-18 from beyond the arc and turned the ball over 13 times.

Hubbard collected 14 points from the free-throw line on 15 attempts as TU had its best game for the charity stripe, shooting 94.7 percent in the contest. The Forward also collected ten rebounds for his ninth double-double of the season.

The Miamisburg native scored early and often for the Trojans, scoring 11 of the first thirteen points of the game as TU trailed 18-13 at the midway point of the half.

The rest of the team started to contribute, and a ferocious Anton Webb dunk highlighted a 9-0 run, which helped Taylor take a four-point lead into halftime.

TU was able to bump the lead up to seven after another basket by Webb, but the Cougars began to pounce when Taylor turned the ball over on three of four possessions.

Saint Francis then took a two-point lead after a converted and-one opportunity with just over 8 minutes remaining in the contest.

Hubbard would not be quiet, propelling a 10-1 run, in which he scored eight points and assisted on the other bucket.

Taylor controlled the game the rest of the way, with the Cougars getting no closer than three.

TU went eight for eight from the charity stripe in the final two minutes to ice the game and get the Trojans back to winning ways.

Anton Webb and Jackson Ullom were key contributors from the bench, with each scoring ten points. Webb also grabbed seven rebounds and blocked a shot, while Ullom nabbed ten points in an efficient four shots with two buckets from three-point land for the freshman.

Taylor plays against RV Huntington (17-6, 9-4 CL), who is riding a four-game winning streak, with two wins over ranked opponents into the matchup on Wednesday, February 1, with tip-off scheduled for 7:00 pm.
