Huntington powers past Bethel baseball

It was the toughest outing to date for the BC baseball team as (RV) Huntington University, the Crossroads League’s front-runner, pummeled the Pilots 21-5. The win gives HU the season sweep over BC as the Pilots drop to 17-15 on the season and 7-13 in league play.

The Foresters wasted little time to take control of the contest. On the second pitch of the contest, HU’s leadoff batter Dalton Combs launched a solo shot over the center-field fence to give the guests a 1-0 lead. A grand slam by Andy Roser ballooned the lead to 5-0 before the first frame came to a close.

The runs piled up quickly, including a 10-run spot in the second, two more in the third and an additional score in the fourth that gave HU an 18-run lead. The Pilots made their way into the scoring column in the fourth, but it was much too late to pose a threat to the Foresters. By the time the dust settled, HU walked away with a 21-5 victory.

Bethel will return to action on Wednesday when they host Saint Francis in a nine-inning contest that will start at 3:00 p.m.
