“Promoting education based athletics in Indiana”
This past week a college basketball player, Jordan Bohannon of Iowa, was on track to break the school’s all-time consecutive free throw streak of 34 straight makes. What followed was a story for the ages.
It’s what Bohannon did on his 35th attempt that sets him apart from most record-setters. He missed on purpose. The young man he was about to surpass (Chris Street) didn’t have the opportunity to extend his streak past the 34, because he was tragically killed in an automobile crash during the 1993 season.
With Street’s family in attendance at this most recent game, Bohanon chose not to surpass Street on the all-time list, instead choosing to miss #35 on purpose. While Iowa fans still remember Street and his accomplishments, they will never forget Bohannon because he honored Street by letting his record stand!
