Illinois’ Farina, Minnesota’s Groenewegen and Iowa’s Doocy earn recognition

Player of the Week

Leigh Farina, Illinois

2B – Jr. – Rolling Meadows, Ill. – William Fremd

Batted .636 with a .667 on-base percentage and .818 slugging percentage as Illinois swept four games, including three Big Ten contests, last week

Recorded multiple hits in each contest against Michigan State, including a career-high three hits in the series finale

Went 5-for-6 with two doubles and three RBI in Saturday’s doubleheader

Earns her first career Player of the Week honor

Pitcher of the Week

Sara Groenewegen, Minnesota

P – Sr. – White Rock, British Columbia – Elgin Park Secondary

Recorded a pair of complete-game wins over Northwestern last week, striking out 21 batters in 12.0 innings while walking just one

Scattered five hits over seven innings while striking out 11 batters and allowing only one earned run in Friday’s victory

Threw a two-hit shutout on Sunday, striking out 10 batters to give her double-digit strikeouts for the second consecutive game and seventh time this season

Earns her 14th career Pitcher of the Week honor and third of the season

Held opposing batters to a .175 batting average, including a one-hit, complete-game shutout of Rutgers
