Indiana To Host North Carolina State in Big Ten/ACC Challenge
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – A rematch of the NCAA Sweet Sixteen matchup between Indiana and North Carolina State will be on deck for the 2021 Big Ten/ACC Challenge, announced by the two conferences on Tuesday.
The Hoosiers will face the Wolfpack on Dec. 2 inside Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. The two teams last met in a highly-competitive 2021 NCAA Sweet Sixteen matchup in San Antonio where Indiana upended No. 1 seed NC State, 73-70, in the Alamodome. All five Indiana starters scored in double figures in the victory behind 17 points from Ali Patberg, 16 points from Mackenzie Holmes and a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds from Grace Berger.
Coming off one of its most historic seasons in school history, the Hoosiers return all five starters from a team that went 21-6 overall and made the NCAA Elite Eight in 2020-21. Holmes (17.8 ppg., 7.6 rpg., 60.7 FG %) and Berger (15.4 ppg., 6.8 rpg., 4.6 apg.). Patberg will return for her seventh and final season of collegiate eligibility as she also added double figures last season (14.0 ppg., 3.9 rpg., 3.6 apg.). Head coach Teri Moren enters her eighth season leading the Hoosiers.
Overall, IU is 8-5 overall in the challenge, recording consecutive victories in the 2018 and 2019 contests while no games were played in 2020. It previously faced NC State one other time in the series, falling 84-70 in Raleigh with the all-time series tied at 1-1. The Hoosiers are 3-3 in home games in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, last hosting Louisville in 2017.
