MARION, Ind. –  Indiana Wesleyan women’s basketball nearly upset No.  14 Thomas Moore Saturday, falling 67-59. The back and forth contest featured 15 lead changes, with the separation not taking place until the Wildcats started fouling down five.

IWU moves to 3-1 on the season.

INSIDE THE BOX

  • Thomas Moore protected the basketball in the first half, coughing it up just four times, while IWU had 11 turnovers. IWU finished the game with a season-high 22 turnovers.
  • The Wildcats collected 17 bench points in the first half, while Thoma Moore had ten. Kellii Damman led IWU off the bench with 11 points, while also dishing out an IWU best of four assists during the first 20 minutes.
  • The red and gray’s defense was smothering, holding Thomas Moore to 32% shooting from the floor, while IWU shot 40%.
  • Indiana Wesleyan found the free throw line once in the first half, while Thomas Moore took 11 shots, making four. Indiana Wesleyan finished the season recording a season-low seven free throw attempts.
  • In each this season, IWU has grabbed at least 30 rebounds while also out-rebounding every opponent.

WHALEY PERSPECTIVE

  • I was proud of the way we competed today. I thought we took a step forward in a lot of areas but give Thomas More credit , they made tough plays down the stretch.

NEXT TIME OUT

  • The Wildcats will take some time off before hosting the Leah Whittaker Classic.
  • IWU will play Clarke (Iowa) on November 13 at 6 p.m., and Asbury on November 14 at 1 p.m.
