Indianapolis, Quincy Garner Weekly Football Honors

 

INDIANAPOLIS – University of Indianapolis senior quarterback Jake Purichia and senior kicker Brad Schickel, as well as Quincy University junior linebacker Cody Leonard, have been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Players of the Week in football, it was announced by the league office Monday.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Jake Purichia, Indianapolis
Sr., QB, Indianapolis, Indiana

Team Result: 45-17 home win vs. Southwest Baptist

Finished an efficient 11-for-16 passing for 267 yards, three touchdowns and zero interceptions

Had six completions of 37 yards or more, including lengthy TD passes of 52 and 48 yards

Added 47 rushing yards on seven attempts for 6.7 yards per rush

Currently leads the GLVC in completion percentage and passing efficiency

Earns his first Offensive Player of the Week award

Last Indianapolis Offensive Player of the Week:  Al McKeller (9/4/17)

 

 

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Cody Leonard, Quincy
Jr., LB, Carrollton, Illinois

Team Result: 7-3 home win vs. Lincoln

Registered 16 tackles, including 11 solo stops and three for a loss and one sack

Forced a fumble on the Quincy 1-yard line to prevent potential go-ahead touchdown for Lincoln

Earns his second Defensive Player of the Week award (9/19/16)

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Brad Schickel, Indianapolis
Sr., K/P, Louisville, Kentucky

Team Result: 45-17 home win vs. Southwest Baptist

Hit a season-long 37-yard field goal in the third quarter

Made good on all six extra-point attempts

Dropped two punts inside the 20, one of which went out of bounds at the 1-yard line

Remains only kicker in the league still perfect in field goal and extra-point attempts combined

Maintains conference-best punting average of 40.8 yards per punt

Earns his second-straight and third Special Teams Player of the Week award (10/12/15, 9/11/17)
