Indianapolis, Southwest Baptist Earn Weekly Football Awards

INDIANAPOLIS – University of Indianapolis senior quarterback Jake Purichia and senior kicker Brad Schickel, as well as Southwest Baptist University senior linebacker Brycen Gagnon, have been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Players of the Week in football, it was announced by the league office Monday.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Jake Purichia, Indianapolis
Sr., QB, Indianapolis, Indiana

Team Result: 45-38 home win vs. Hillsdale

Accounted for 447 of the team’s 477 yards of total offense

Finished 20-of-32 passing for career-high 342 yards, four touchdowns and zero interceptions

Ended as game’s leading rusher with personal-best 105 yards on eight carries (13.1 ypc)

Rushing performance marked the first time a UIndy QB went for triple digits since 2003

Threw TD passes of 45, 32, 37 and 22 yards

Leads the GLVC in completion percentage (71.4)

Ranks second in NCAA Division II in yards per pass attempt (11.2) and third in passing efficiency (200.7)

Earns his second career Offensive Player of the Week award (9/18/17)

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Brycen Gagnon, Southwest Baptist
Sr., LB, Yulee, Florida

Team Result: 55-6 home win vs. Quincy

Registered game-high 11 tackles to go along with 2.0 tackles for loss

Recorded 20-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown

Led a defensive unit that held Quincy to 132 yards of total offense – tied for eighth-lowest in GLVC history

Helped limit the Hawks to 1-for-13 in third-down conversions

Earns his second Defensive Player of the Week award (9/19/16)

Last Southwest Baptist Defensive Player of the Week:  D’Angelo Tucker (10/31/16)

 
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Brad Schickel, Indianapolis
Sr., K/P, Louisville, Kentucky

Team Result: 45-38 home win vs. Hillsdale

Scored a career-high 13 points, including 3-for-3 in field goals and 4-for-4 in PAT attempts

First field goal of 37 yards matched a season long

One of 12 DII kickers yet to miss a field goal this season

Averaged 41.2 yards on five punts, dropping four inside the 20-yard line, three of which were downed inside the seven

First-ever standout to earn three-straight Special Teams Player of the Week awards

Earns fourth Special Teams Player of the Week award (10/12/15, 9/11/17, 9/18/17)
