Iowa, Maryland and Penn State Earn Weekly Women’s Soccer Awards

Hawkeyes’ Hannah Drkulec and Claire Graves, Terrapins’ Erin Seppi and Nittany Lions’ Ally Schlegel are this week’s honorees

 

Offensive Player AND Freshman of the Week

Ally Schlegel, Penn State

F – Fr. – Parker, Colo. – Chaparral

• Scored goals in both games for Penn State last weekend, netting the Nittany Lions’ lone goal in last Friday’s tie at No. 22 West Virginia and the game-winning tally on Sunday against James Madison

• Extended her goal-scoring streak to four games

• Earns her first career Offensive Player of the Week honor

• Last Penn State Offensive Player of the Week: Sam Coffey (Sept. 4, 2019)

• Receives her second career Freshman of the Week accolade

• Last Penn State Freshman of the Week: Ally Schlegel (Sept. 4, 2019)

Defensive Player of the Week

Hannah Drkulec, Iowa

D – Sr. – Windsor, Ontario – St. Anne

• Anchored Iowa defense that did not allow a goal and gave up just 10 total shots last weekend in road wins at No. 14/19 N.C. State and UNC Greensboro

• Added a goal in the win at UNCG as the Hawkeyes improved to 6-0 this season, their best start since an 8-0 debut in 2013

• A two-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and Academic All-Big Ten selection in 2017 and 2018

• Garners her second career Defensive Player of the Week honor

• Last Iowa Defensive Player of the Week: Hannah Drkulec (Aug. 27, 2019)

Co-Goalkeeper of the Week

Claire Graves, Iowa

GK – Sr. – Noblesville, Ind. – Noblesville

• Registered two shutouts and four combined saves last weekend to help Iowa earn road victories at No. 14/19 N.C. State and UNC Greensboro

• Had two stops at N.C. State to lead the Hawkeyes to a win over the third-highest ranked opponent in school history and best since defeating No. 7 Michigan on Nov. 6, 2013, in a Big Ten Tournament quarterfinal at Champaign, Ill.

• Twice named a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and Academic All-Big Ten honoree (2017 and 2018)

• Receives her second career Goalkeeper of the Week accolade

• Last Iowa Goalkeeper of the Week: Claire Graves (Aug. 21, 2018)

Erin Seppi, Maryland

GK – Sr. – Monroe Township, N.J. – Monroe

• Recorded a career-high 11 saves in double-overtime tie at George Washington and recorded shutout at home against George Mason last week

• Allowed only one goal in 200 minutes of action

• Collected Academic All-Big Ten honors in 2018

• Earns her first career Goalkeeper of the Week award
