IUN drops road contest at SAU
DAVENPORT, Iowa – Trace Williams scored a game-high 18 points, but the Indiana University Northwest men’s basketball team fell for the first time in nine games as St. Ambrose was a 76-65 CCAC winner Saturday.
Lamarius Lillard and Williams each scored early for the RedHawks as they led 4-3 less than two minutes into the contest. However, SAU retook the advantage a few moments later and would go up by 11 before IUN mounted a late half rally.
The rally was sparked by a Lillard, who nailed on a trifecta with two minutes remaining and the RedHawks got within five moments later. The Bees would score back-to-back buckets before Williams hit a layup right before the clock hit zero.
SAU would continue to hold on to the lead in the second half but at the midway point IUN went on top after Ladaion Barnes scored six straight points. The RedHawks were not able to hold the cushion after the Bees retook advantage at 55-53.
However, with under two minutes left Lillard sank another three to bring IUN within three (68-65), but the RedHawks could draw any closer.
Following Monday’s exhibition contest at Chicago State, IUN returns to conference action Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. when it welcomes Governors State to the Savannah Center for Senior Night.
