IUSB MBB hang on to defeat Viterbo on Senior Day

SOUTH BEND, Ind.- The Indiana University South Bend Titans (16-10 CCAC, 13-5 CCAC) defeat the Viterbo University V-Hawks (8-17, 6-12 CCAC) by a final score of 72-69 on Senior Day as seniors Shawn Brown, Jylen Petty, Deshon Burnett, and Quentez Columbus were honored.

Ahead by one less than eight minutes into the IUSB was on the wrong side of an 8-0 V-Hawks one that gave Viterbo a seven point lead.

The Titans then answered with an 8-2 run of their own to pull within one point of Viterbo.

Trailing by five late in the first half, IU South Bend scored the last four points of the period to take just a one point deficit into halftime, trailing 33-32.

A lively IUSB offense came out hot in the second half, scoring 14 of the first 18 points to open up a nine point advantage over the V-Hawks less than five minutes through the second half.

The Titans would remain in the driver’s seat for most of the second half until the 3:32 second mark when Viterbo came back to tie the game.

IU South Bend was able to score five of the last seven points and seal the game on the final Viterbo possession thanks to a steal by Senior Day honoree Deshon Burnett to put the game on ice with the Titans defeating the V-Hawks 72-69.

An efficient IUSB offense shot 50% from the field and were led by senior guard Quentez Columbus who finished with 16 points.

Columbus’ 16 points came on nearly 70% shooting from the field while also recording four rebounds and dishing out five assists.

The next Titan to post double figures in the scoring column was senior forward Jylen Petty who finished with 15 points.

Petty’s 15 points came on on nearly 50% shooting from the field (6-13) while also converting on three triples from beyond the arc.

The last Titan to score in double figures was forward Nick Mullen who finished with 14 points.

Mullen’s 14 points came on just three missed field goals while also swatting two blocks in a team high 32 minutes of playing time.

The Indiana University South Bend Titans return to action on Wednesday, February 19th, when they travel to Bourbonnais, Illinois, to take on the Tigers of Olivet Nazarene University at 8:30 PM ET.
