SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Indiana University South Bend men’s and women’s golf team begin the 2019-20 season at The Players Club Invitational, hosted by Taylor University. The invite runs from Friday, Sept. 6 to Saturday, Sept. 7 at The Players Club at Woodland Trails in Yorktown, Ind.

The event will begin on Friday at 1:30 p.m. with shotgun starts set on Saturday for 9 a.m. Following the weekend, the men’s team will head to Memphis, Tenn. to participate in the NAIA Memphis Shootout, hosted by Sterling College. The shootout takes place on the TPC Southwind and runs through Monday, Sept. 9 and Tuesday, Sept. 10.
The Titans are coached by Drew Roop who enters his second season at the helm. Roop guided the women’s program to its first All-Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference selection while on the men’s side a few top-five individual finishes highlighted the 2018-19 season.
“As I enter my second season coaching the Titans, I have high hopes for our players,” commented Roop. “We are well on the way of establishing the golf program as one of the premier programs in collegiate golf. We have a great balance of upperclassmen and freshman on both teams that ensures the future of this program. In the short time we have been together this semester the players have worked extremely hard at their games as they strive to get better everyday. Clear and specific goals and expectations gives this team the direction they need to accomplish our team and individual goals. Reminding our players that this is a marathon not a sprint gives them the support they need to accomplish our team goals. I am so proud of this team and honored to be their coach!”
The men return juniors Ben Clevenger and Jeremy Julian and sophomores David Counsellor and Collin Haines. Additions to the Titans squad includes junior Nick Hayden, freshman Landyn Nunemaker and Illinois State transfer Hayden Stoewer.
Following the Memphis Shootout, the remainder of the fall season consists of four more outings for the men’s team including, Treetops LTU Invite, CCACP Cup, Whistling Straits Intercollegiate and the Holy Cross Invite.
Samantha Eaks, Josie Greene and Erin Trabert are the three returns on the women’s side while coach Roop added four more additions to the team. Last year, Green earned All-CCAC Second Team after finishing 28th in a loaded field at the championships this past spring. She boasted her best finish of the year at the LTU Invite at Heritage Hill Golf Club after shooting a 171 (87-84), tying for 19th.
After the weekend, the women will participate in six more outings this fall that include the Battle at Blackthorn, Treetops LTU Invite, CCAC Cup, Harbor Shores Intercollegiate, Whistling Straits Intercollegiate and the Holy Cross Invite.
