KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Indiana University South Bend men’s basketball team officially begins its NAIA Division I Men’s Basketball National Championship journey when it travels to Marion, Ind. to take on Rio Grande on Friday, March 12 inside Luckey Arena for the opening round.
The NAIA announced earlier this year that each opening round site will feature two, three-team “pod” tournaments in which the No. 1 seed will receive a bye. The Nos. 2 & 3 teams will play each other on day one and will face the No. 1 seed in that pod for the championship. The winner of that final game will go to the NAIA National Championship Final Site in Kansas City, Mo.
The Titans were tabbed as the No. 2 seed in the Marion pod in bracket B while the RedStorms were tabbed No. 3. The winner of the IUSB-RGCC contest will play one-seeded Indiana Wesleyan on Saturday, March 13.
The Titans own a 6-0 overall record and were one of the automatic qualifying teams in the tournament as a result of their second consecutive thrilling Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament championship victory at top-seed Olivet Nazarene on March 1.
IU South Bend is one of three teams coming out of the CCAC to participate in the national tournament. Other league opponents include Olivet Nazarene and Holy Cross.
Game is set for Friday, March 12. Ticket information and NAIA DI tournament information can be viewed HERE.
