IUSB Prepares for Three CCAC Matches

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Indiana University South Bend volleyball team is back in action this week for three Chicagoland Collegiate Athletics Conferences matches. The Titans travel to Robert Morris on Tuesday, Sept. 10 before facing Governors State on Thursday, Sept. 12. Both away contests are slated to begin at 8:00 p.m. (EST). Concluding the week, IUSB welcomes IU Northwest on Saturday, Sept. 14 for a 3:00 p.m. start inside the Student Activities Center.

Titans at a Glance
IUSB enters the week 3-5 overall and 0-1 in CCAC play after competing in five matches last week. The Titans enter Tuesday’s contest on a two-match winning streak after defeating Goshen College (3-0) and Siena Heights (3-2) on Saturday in Adrian, Mich. At home, IU South Bend is 0-1 after falling 3-0 in its conference opener to St. Francis (Ill.)

1,000 Milestone
Sophomore McKenzie Powell reached the 1,000-assists mark last weekend after dishing out 31 assists against Madonna at the Julie Martin Memorial Classic. After the weekend, the Rolling Prairie, Ind., native now has 1,120 career assists.

IUSB Individual Leaders
Jacksonville transfer Hannah Marchand leads the team this season with 68 kills in just 18 sets played, averaging 3.8 per set. The junior is also attacking at a .288 percent to lead the Titans offensively. Powell leads the way in assists as she now has 200 and averages 6.9 per set in 29 sets played. On the defensive end, senior Samantha Hockstra leads the Titans with 128 total digs while senior counterpart Sydney Lubinski has 19 total blocks during the 2019 campaign.

Newest Titan – Elijah James
Head coach Jamie Ashmore added the newest player to the roster. On Saturday, Sept. 7 at 2:43 p.m. Elijah James was born at St. Joseph hospital.

Scouting the Opponents
Robert Morris – The Eagles enter Tuesday’s contest at 0-10 overall and are 0-1 in the conference. RMU fell to CCAC opponent Cardinal Stritch on Friday, Sept. 6 in three sets before dropping a 3-0 decision at Clarke University. The Titans hold a 5-2 advantage in the all-time series against the Eagles and are 1-0 at Robert Morris.

Governors State – The Jaguars are coached by Pete Gonzalez, who is in his fourth year at the helm. GSU is 2-9 overall this season and dropped its conference opener at Roosevelt in four sets back on Sept. 4. Prior to Thursday’s matchup, the Jaguars host Cardinal Stritch on Tuesday. The Titans hold a perfect 8-0 record against GSU and have only dropped on set, which occurred back on Sept. 26, 2017 inside the SAC.

IU Northwest – Indiana University Northwest, the newest member to the CCAC, is coming off a 2-0 week after defeating Saint Xavier (RV) on the road, 3-1, on Sept. 5 before sweeping Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, Ill. on Saturday, Sept. 7. The RedHawks are 2-1 this season after dropping its season opener at Lincoln College. Prior to Saturday’s match, IUN hosts Calumet College of St. Joseph and Roosevelt University in CCAC action. The Titans have defeated the RedHawks in all three occasions that these teams have met.

 

On the Horizon
Following the week, IU South Bend remains home to host CCAC foe Judson University on Tuesday, Sept. 17 inside the SAC at 7:00 p.m. for its lone match of the week.
