SOUTH BEND, Ind. – For the third consecutive season, Indiana University South Bend volleyball saw at least one of its players named to the AVCA NAIA Mideast All-Region team. Senior Hannah Marchand garnered first team honors while junior McKenzie Powell grabbed an honorable mention nod, announced the AVCA on

Both Marchand and Powell helped IU South Bend see success in an improbable season by the Titans, who had the first month of its season put on pause due to Indiana University placing a hold on all regional campuses from late November to early February. IU South Bend displayed resiliency during the 2020-21 campaign, playing three to four games a week in conference play and earned the fourth seed in the tournament.

Marchand earns her second consecutive region nod in her second year wearing the Crimson & Cream.  Marchand ended the season having recorded five straight matches with double-digit kills and had double-digit kills in 17 of the 19 matches this season. Marchand’s 4.1 kills per set in 19 matches this season was best amongst all conference opponents and 13th best mark in the NAIA. The Sturgis, Mich. native notched a .294 hitting percentage that ranks fifth in the league. The senior also earned weekly conference honors four times in the shortened season.

For her career Marchand ranks fifth all-time in school history with 745 career kills in just 55 matches and leads the program with 3.86 kills per set.

Powell also earns her second consecutive region nod after garnering honorable mention honors last year. Powell continues to mark her name in the Titan record books, earning her second consecutive first team conference nod. Powell ended the season second in the CCAC and 20th in the NAIA with 10.1 assists per set. Powell’s 8.56 assists per set and 2791 total assists during her three-year career ranks first all-time in school history.

Powell finished the 2020-21 campaign with 698 assists, 209 digs and 44 kills in 19 matches. The Rolling Prairie, Ind. native led the Titans this season with 11 double-doubles and had over 40 assists in six of IUSB’s 19 matches. Powell collected a season-high 48 assists in a 3-1 victory over Lincoln College on March, 13.

The Titan pair joins eight other CCAC players on the AVCA teams this season and three other IUSB players in the history of the program. Sarah Allison garnered first team honors in 2018 while McClintock grabbed honors in three consecutive seasons from 2015 (HM), 2016 (1st) and 2017 (1st). Janelle Rehlander earned an honorable mention nod back in 2017.
