Powell Becomes All-Time Assist Leader
JOLIET, Ill. – Record breaking performances all-around led Indiana University South Bend volleyball team to a five-set victory over St. Francis (Ill.) on Tuesday night in a crucial Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference. With the win, the Titans have now won five straight and are 17-11 overall with a 11-3 conference record.

Sophomore McKenzie Powell became the all-time assist leader in Titan volleyball history after dishing out 57 of the team’s 66 total assists. The Rolling Prairie, Ind. native now has 1,766 total assists and passed Melissa Macellari. Powell’s 57 assists is also second in the record books for a five-set match.
As a team, IU South Bend collected 68 total kills which is tied for the second highest kills in a five-set match. The Titans smashed the team record for total number of digs in a five-set match with 116 on the night. The previous record was 105 when IUSB registered 105 against Valley State on Sept. 16, 2016.
Junior transfer Hannah Marchand tied a career-high with a game-high 25 kills, attacking at a high rate of .365. Three other Titans registered double-figures in kills including Julie Brown (14), Sydney Lubinski (10) and Alexis Issette (10). Senior Robbie Berg collected a game-high 28 digs while CCAC Defender of the Week, Marchand, collected six total blocks at the net.
IU South Bend evened the match at one all with a 25-21 victory in the second after a sluggish start in the first as USF took the first set by a score of 25-19. The Titans went ahead 2-1 with an exciting 27-25 third before the Fighting Saints bounced back with a 25-20 fourth to force a deciding fifth set.
In the final stanza, IUSB outscored USF 10-4 en route to a 16-14 victory, completing the CCAC victory and taking a game up on the Fighting Saints in the conference standings. IUSB is now tied with Olivet Nazarene, who the Titans defeated 3-1 last Thursday, Oct. 24, for second behind Trinity Christian.
The Titans go for six straight on Thursday, Oct. 31 inside the Student Activities Center for “Volley-Boo” night against Robert Morris. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. Fans are encouraged to wear their costumes for a chance to win a free pizza from Papa Johns. At home, IUSB holds a 7-1 overall record.
