Volleyball Sweeps CCAC Weekly Honors
CHICAGO – For the first time this season, Indiana University South Bend volleyball swept the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference weekly honors, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Senior middle hitter Hannah Marchand earned both CCAC Attacker and Defender of the Week honors while junior McKenzie Powell earned CCAC Setter of the Week honors. The trio guided IUSB this past week to a 4-0 overall record, improving to 7-2 on the season.
Marchand in four matches averaged 3.0 digs, 1.0 blocks and 5.2 kills per set to go along with her .319 attacking percentage.
The Sturgis, Mich. native tallied no less than 15 kills in any one of the four matched played by the Titans with a pair of double-doubles coming against University of St. Francis on Thursday (18 kills, 19 digs) and Lincoln College on Saturday (25 kills, 11 digs). In the St. Francis match, she also recorded five assist blocks and two aces.
Within the conference, Marchand ranks first in kills per set (4.5), fifth in hitting percentage (.294) and seventh in blocks per set (0.8).
Powell averaged 10.6 assists per set in guiding an offense that produced the perfect league play week. Like her teammate, the Rolling Prairie, Ind. native also registered a pair of double-doubles with hers also coming against St. Francis (38 assists, 16 digs) and Lincoln (48 assists, 14 digs). The junior’s other numbers during the week included six aces and ten blocks (two solo, eight assists).
Amongst all CCAC players, Powell is ahead in the league in assists per set (10.2).
The Titans continue their hot streak tonight, heading to Whiting, Ind. to face Calumet St. Joseph at 8 p.m. IUSB returns home on Saturday, March 20, welcoming Governors State inside the Student Activities Center at 7:30 p.m. before playing at Olivet Nazarene on Thursday, March 18.
