IUSB Volleyball: Titans Sweep SXU Advancing to Second Straight CCAC Semis; Powell Reaches 1,000 Assist Mark

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Indiana University South Bend volleyball swept Saint Xavier (25-17, 25-19, 25-15) on Tuesday evening inside the Student Activities Center during the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference quarterfinals, advancing to the semis for the second consecutive season and third time in program history.

With the win, IU South Bend improves to 21-12 overall and will host No. 3 Olivet Nazarene on Thursday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. inside the SAC. Thursday’s contest will be rematch from earlier this season when the Titans defeated ONU by a score of 3-1 in South Bend on Oct. 24. Earlier this evening ONU defeated IU Northwest 3-1 in McHie Arena.

Highlighting the Titan victory, sophomore McKenzie Powell dished out her 1,000th assist of the season after collecting a game-high 32 assists. Junior Alexis Issette tied for a game-high 11 kills with SXU’s Nadia Atton. Junior transfer Hannah Marchand was the final IU South Bend player in double-figures with 10 kills.

Marchand added a double-double with 14 digs to go along with her 10 kills while senior Robbie Berg added a team-high 16 digs. Senior counterpart and the Titan leader this season in the dig category, Samantha Hockstra, added 14 for the Crimson & Cream.

As a team, IU South Bend attacked at its best in the first set off 38 attacking attempts that was good for 15 kills with just two errors. The Titans outmatched the Cougars in kills, 45-33, digs, 63-57, assists, 63-57 and blocks, nine to five.

IUSB readies for the conference semifinals on Thursday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. inside the SAC, hosting the three seed Olivet Nazarene.
