IUSB WBB fall to Dakota State in second round of NAIA National Tournament

MADISON, S.D. The Indiana University South Bend Titans (31-2, 19-1 CCAC) fell in the second round of the NAIA Women’s Basketball National Tournament to the Dakota State University Trojans (27-6) by a final score of 85-47.

Falling in an early deficit, IU South Bend was outscored 20-6 in the first quarter and could not catch up.

Tying the Trojans 20-20 in the second quarter, the Titans took a 40-26 deficit into the halftime locker room.

Once again, IUSB was outscored by Dakota State in the third quarter, this time by 17 points to take a 68-38 deficit heading into the fourth quarter.

IU South Bend was held to just nine points in the game’s final 10 minutes, ultimately dropping their second round match up 85-47 to the Trojans of Dakota State University.

The IU South Bend offense featured two Titans to score in double figures, led by Tenleigh Phelps who finished with 14 points.

Phelps’ 14 points bring her season total to 646 total points, the most in a single-season in IU South Bend history. Her seven rebounds wraps up her first season as a Titan with 232 total rebounds, also a single-season record in school history.

The other Titan to score in double figures was fifth year senior Katie Gard who finished with 10 points.

Gard’s 10 points brings her career total 1699 points, good for third best in IU South Bend history while moving herself into third place in the CCAC in three point percentage at nearly 40%.

Other notable Titans concluding their career include Maddie Gard and Emma Fisher.

Maddie Gard concluded her illustrious career with 1,957 career points, the most in IU South Bend history for the men or women’s programs while also finishing with a program high 745 made field goals and 385 made free throws.

Emma Fisher concludes her career with 215 career steals good for top five in IU South Bend history and 490 total assists, which places her top three in Titans history.
