IUSB women’s basketball drop OT thriller at Governors St.

University Park, Ill.- The Indiana University South Bend women’s basketball team did all they could on Friday evening to travel home with a win, but unfortunately came up just short in an overtime thriller with Governors State University. The Titans fell to the Jaguars by a score of 52-48, dropping them to 6-7 on the season and 3-3 in the CCAC.

On a tough shooting night for the team, shooting just 27.6% from the field and 22.2% from three point range, Kylie Fehrman (SO/Griffith, Indiana) scored a game high 17 points. Rachael Robards (FR/St. John, Indiana) added 9 points, while Taitlyn Trenshaw (SO/Nappanee, Indiana) and Kyleigh Kubik (JR/LaPorte, Indiana) each chipped in 8 points. Courtney Raymer (SO/Southport, Indiana) pulled down a team high 6 rebounds.

It would prove to be a slow scoring night for both teams as the Titans would score just 7 points in the first quarter. However, this would prove to be enough to keep the team in the game as they headed into the second quarter tied with the Jaguars. The second quarter would see a bit more scoring action and a jumper by Taylor Wesley (JR/South Bend, Indiana) with 1:05 on the clock would send the Titans to the locker room with a halftime lead, 22-18.

Coming out of the locker room, the Titans would extend their lead to as many as 9 points before the Jaguars would fight back to finish the third quarter knotted at 40. IUSB would play evenly with Governors State throughout the fourth quarter, but with 6 seconds on the clock a GSU jumper was good to put them on top, 48-46. The excitement wouldn’t stop there as a Kyleigh Kubik field goal was good at the buzzer to send the two teams to overtime.

A Titan scoring drought left them unable to score any points in overtime; leading to the Titans falling just short on the road to the Jaguars.

IUSB will have a week break before they take the court on Saturday, December 15th. The Titans will host Judson University in the Student Activities Center, with tip off at 1:00 PM ET.
