LAKEVILLE, Ind.- The Indiana University South Bend Titans (3-3-1, 0-1-0 CCAC) fell to the Saint Ambrose University Fighting Bees (3-3-0, 1-0-0 CCAC) by a score of 6-0 to open up CCAC play.
Saint Ambrose got the scoring started early, breaking the scoreless tie in just the second minute of Saturday’s contest when junior forward Kendall Wendt found the back of the net to give the Fighting Bees a 1-0 lead.
In the ninth minute of the CCAC opener, Saint Ambrose junior midfielder Kaitlyn Brunson scored a goal assisted by junior forward Taylor DeSplinter to extend the Saint Ambrose lead to 2-0.
Saint Ambrose capped off their first half scoring when Taylor DeSplinter notched her second assist of Saturday’s contest when she found sophomore Jenna Horst who found the back of the net to further the Fighting Bees lead to 3-0.
The Fighting Bees picked up where they left off early in the second half when junior midfielder Kaitlyn Brunson scored her second goal of the game in the 51st minute to give Saint Ambrose a 4-0 lead.
Saint Ambrose freshman forward Mia Hefner scored the first goal of her collegiate career to give the Fighting Bees a 5-0 lead.
The Fighting Bees continued their offensive success in the 76th minute when sophomore midfielder scored to extend the Saint Ambrose lead to 6-0.
The IU South Bend Titans saw their best chance to score in the 84th when sophomore midfielder Haylie Rodriguez fired a shot on goal but Fighting Bees goalkeeper Rachel Willette was able to knock the try away to conserve the Saint Ambrose shutout.
The Indiana University South Bend Titans return to action on Tuesday, September 19th, when they host Governors State University at 5:00 PM at Newton Park.
