LAKEVILLE, Ind. – In its first home match of Indiana University South Bend women’s soccer history, Ana Molina recorded the first goal in Titan history against Bethel University on Saturday afternoon. The match was played at Newton Park in Lakeville, Ind., home of the 2019 Titans soccer program in front of over 150 fans.
The Titans made history in many forms on Saturday, hosting its first home game and scoring the first goal from Molina that came in the 78th minute. IUSB capitalized on a freekick in its own half as Morelia Villa delivered a beautiful 35-yard ball to Lindsey Aschenbrenner. The forward would slot the ball right to Molina, one-timing it to the far post.
Despite the goal, the Bethel Pilots proved to be too much for the Titans on the historical afternoon, defeating IUSB by a score of 7-1.
IUSB’s starting goalkeeper Sandra Alvarez faced nine shots on goal in the first stanza, making a total of five saves. Cheyenne Foor made her second career appearance in the final 45 minutes as the Valparaiso, Ind. native recorded a career-high three saves.
Molina ended the day with three shots on goal to lead the team while Fatima Mercado added two for the Crimson & Cream.
The Titans hit the road next, travelling to Milwaukee, Wisc. in their first Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference match at Cardinal Stritch. Kickoff is slated for 4:00 p.m. (EST).
