ELGIN, Ill. – IU South Bend continued their unbeaten start to the conference slate on Tuesday night, as the Titans took a four-set victory at Judson, 25-13, 25-15, 23-25, 25-14.
Hannah Marchand led the attack for the Titans (8-3, 4-0 CCAC), collecting 17 kills with a .448 attack percentage. The current CCAC Setter of the Week McKenzie Powell tallied 41 assists in the win, to go with 11 digs for her seventh double-double of the year. Julie Brown registered 13 kills, while libero Suriya Van der Oord made 15 digs to lead the IUSB back line.
The Titans claimed all three of their sets by comfortable margins, using an 8-0 run that included five kills from Marchand to go up 22-11 in the first game. In game two, a 7-1 rally stretched the South Bend lead to 21-11, highlighted by kills from four different Titans and a Whitney Guessinger ace.
After a slow start in game three, the Titans had a chance to end the match in straight sets. Six straight points closed the Judson lead to 17-16 thanks to a kill and pair of blocks from Felisha Campanello. The Eagles (10-3, 3-2 CCAC) responded with five of the next six points, stretching their advantage to 22-17. A pair of kills from Abby Seeger sandwiched around an ace from Van der Oord started a 6-2 run for the Titans, but Judson held on to extend the match with a 25-23 win.
IU South Bend quickly regained their momentum in game four, leading by as much as 18-6 on their way to earning the victory.
The Titans have a full week before their next matchup, when they host Cardinal Stritch at the Student Activities Center. First serve with the Wolves on Tuesday, Septmeber 21 is set for 7:00 p.m.
