IWU Baseball Hits 10 Home Runs, Wins Season Series vs. Taylor

UPLAND, Ind. – Indiana Wesleyan University baseball split a doubleheader with Taylor (Ind.) on Monday to earn a 2-1 season series victory over their Grant County rival. Taylor avoided the sweep in the opener with a last inning rally to win 6-5 but Indiana Wesleyan dominated game two with a 14-1 win. Indiana Wesleyan improves to 20-26 this season as the Wildcats have won 10 of their last 12 games.

GAME 1 – Taylor def. Indiana Wesleyan, 6-5
Indiana Wesleyan headed into the seventh inning with a 5-4 lead. Wyatt Whitman led off with a single for the Trojans and Josh Lane laid down a sac bunt. Everyone was safe on the fielder’s choice and runners moved to second and third base on a throwing error by Zee Breytenbach. Brian Fields finished the game with a walk-off single to right field for the 6-5 TU victory.
Six of the nine Indiana Wesleyan hits went for extra bases. Caleb Eder went 3-for-4 with two home runs and a double while Brady West hit a home run and Tanner Killian belted a pair of doubles.
Johnny Rohde has a fantastic outing in relief for the Wildcats, as he did not allow a run in 2.0 innings of work. He allowed one hit and no walks while striking out three Trojans.

GAME 2 – Indiana Wesleyan def. Taylor, 14-1 (7 innings)
The Wildcats scored in each of the first three innings in building a 7-1 lead. IWU put the game away in the sixth inning with seven runs in the frame as the Wildcats earned the seven inning run rule.
Ethan English had a career-game with three home runs. He is the second Wildcat to hit three home runs in a game in program history, joining Caleb Eder who accomplished the feat just 10 days ago vs. Bethel (Ind.).
The Wildcats launched seven home runs, led by the English trifecta. Brady West hit a second home run on the day while Tanner Killian, Nick Coy, and Tye Thixton all joined with a home run.
Caleb Eder earned the win on the mound with 5.0 solid innings. He allowed one run on three hits with nine punch-outs. Kyle Hall pitched the final 2.0 innings and did not allow a run.
