Baseball Sweeps Away Maple Leafs with Six Home Runs

MARION, Ind. – Indiana Wesleyan University baseball powered past Goshen (Ind.) on Saturday for a weekend sweep of the Maple Leafs. IWU hit six home runs and scored 18 runs during the Saturday doubleheader. Indiana Wesleyan routed Goshen 13-0 in the opening game and won 5-4 in the finale on a dramatic walk-off single by Steven Busby.

GAME 1 – Indiana Wesleyan def. Goshen, 13-0
Indiana Wesleyan scored four times in the first inning for the quick lead. Brady West, Ethan English, and Caleb Eder hit back-to-back-to-back home runs to ignite the blowout win. The Wildcats added seven runs in the fifth inning to create a 12 run lead.
Conner Cantrell threw a complete game shutout to collect the win on the mound. He scattered four hits and two walks while striking out eight Maple Leafs. Cantrell threw 82 pitches in his seven innings of work.
Five Wildcats had multi-hit games as IWU pounded out 15 hits in all. Tanner Killian was 3-for-3 at the plate with a home run and Caleb Eder was 2-for-4 with two home runs and three RBIs.

GAME 2 – Indiana Wesleyan def. Goshen, 5-4
Goshen tied the score 4-4 with a two-out single in the ninth inning. In the bottom of the ninth, Tye Thixton led off with a single and took second on a Lucas Goodin sac bunt. Following an intentional walk to Tanner Killian, Steven Busby drilled a single to left field and Thixton slid home for the winning run as the throw was off line.
Austin Swift was solid on the mound in a 5.0 inning start. He allowed two runs on four hits as he struck out four. It was the first start of the season for Swift.
Nick Coy and Lucas Goodin each had three hits in the win. Coy was 3-for-3 with a walk and a double while Goodin went 3-for-4 with a run and a stolen base in addition to the key sac bunt in the ninth inning.
