IWU gets better of Lady Lancers
MARION, Ind. – Grace’s volleyball team was unable to upset Indiana Wesleyan on the road Saturday, losing in three sets.
The Lady Lancers (19-14, 11-6 Crossroads League) will finish fourth in the league standings after losing Saturday. Grace will host Taylor on Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. in the quarterfinals of the CL Tournament.
Grace’s offense had one of its quietest nights of the season on Saturday. The Lady Lancers had nearly as many attack errors (24) as kills (27); Grace could only hit at a .028 percentage.
The Wildcats (21-11, 12-4 CL), on the other hand, pummeled out 39 kills at a .276 percentage.
The Lady Lancers were limited to five kills in the opening set in a 12-point loss. Grace managed to reach double-digit kills in each of the next two sets, but the team’s attack percentage never topped .100.
The Wildcats secured the sweep with 25-19, 25-16 wins in the final two sets.
No player for Grace topped 10 kills. Caylie Teel led Grace with nine kills and 10 digs. Kelsee Zuidema finished with seven kills, and Makaela Lochmueller added two kills and two solo blocks.
The Lady Lancers wrap up the regular season on Wednesday at home. Grace hosts Goshen at 7 p.m. for Senior Night to honor the graduating class of Teel, Zuidema, Marta Bleed and Kelsey Smith.
